Jimmy Fricke’s Story

Jimmy’s poker career has been very successful. He started off like many playing online MTTS, except that his results were far from ordinary. I remember reading his blog at the time, where he would chronicle his numerous successes. The blog still happens to be live, here is a link to Jimmy’s old poker blog. I would also follow his daily tribulations or what he referred to as “a comedy of gobbo errors” on Pocketfives. He has always been an active member there, you can see Gobboboy’s Pocketfives Profile.

About Gobboboy’s Early Career Results

I remember first hearing about Jimmy when he posted his MTT win rate on Pocketfives. His ROI in some games was astounding to me. I dug up the post that caught my attention the first time. This was in 2006. Check out these stats:

Summary Statistics
Est Winnings: $79,259
Total Played: 251
Est Buyins: $19,069
ITM Rate: 15.5%
Rake: $1,004
FT Rate: 5.6%
Est Profit: $59,186
Top 3 Rate: 3.6%
Avg. Finish: 44/100
Avg. Buyin: $76
Avg. Field Size: 1,052
ROI: 294.9%
Avg. Expectation: $236
Total TLB points (# included): 9,063 (50)

This was right of the start of Gobbo’s career, definitely a precursor for things to come.

Jimmy’s Decision To Go Full Time

Just before these tournament stats were posted on Pocketfives.com, Jimmy Fricke dropped out of college to devote his life to internet poker. This was in 2005. Fast forward two years later and had accumulated 1.5 million dollars in live tournament winnings as well as hundreds of thousands online. Definitely a good move for Jimmy. But how did he get there.

Gobboboy Live Tournament Earnings

At the age of 19, Jimmy cashed in two major live events. The first one was the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure which took place in the Bahamas. He took 22nd place for this event. But his main break came from the Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. You probably saw Jimmy on TV, playing heads up against Gus Hansen at the final table. Although he gave a great fight, Gus Hansen got the best of him. Here is an extract from the duel on Youtube. Jimmy still won 800 k for his second place finish.

World Series Of Poker Results

Gobboboy also cashed in the WSOPE 2007 HORSE event.

Jimmy Fricke Blog

We have pointed you to Jimmy’s old blog already. It seems he is not actively blogging anymore. He also used to discuss strategy on this site: WiseHandPoker. But it seems his blog got removed there. He does have a professional website though, here is the link: Jimmy Fricke Tournament Specialist . Note that this doesn’t contain a seperate blog.
