Friends Episode – The One With All The Poker
Did The Boys Win Or Did The Girls Win ?
Well, as you will see from the episode, the boys started out with a clear advantage. Ross, Chandler and Joey are experienced poker players, and were showing off in front of the girls.
This is how we deal cards says Joey (as if the girls didn’t even know what it meant)
The girls were not impressed but couldn’t do much at the table, mainly lose all of their change to Joey and Ross. In the girl’s defense however, they barely knew how to play. As poker players ourselves, we know how hard holdem can be, and feel somewhat sorry for the girls. They were clearly taken advantage of, but were definitely looking to take their revenge.
Rachel and Monica’s revenge
Phoebe had a friend that is a professional poker player, and agreed to coach them before the facing the boys a second time. Armed with their new knowledge they were confident to beat the guys.
Coaching Session
Their Coach taught them about bluffing. The first thing the coach said is
Everything is crap at the poker table, never believe what anyone says to you, ever ….
She then goes on to say to Phoebe :
Nice haircut, I like it …
Was the coach bluffing, or did she really like Phoebe’s haircut ? You tell us, but she put her point across pretty nicely.
The Re-match between the Actors Of The Friends TV Show
The rematch was pretty epic. It started out with Rachel shuffling the cards like an expert, and Joey was astounded. The guys were definitely concerned, and on their guard. As the hands went by, the girls were definitely reaping in the money, leaving Joey, Chandler, and Ross utterly powerless. The action ended by a memorable heads up hand between Rachel and Ross. This is even more interesting considering the past relationship they had together. If you recall, they had just broken up and Ross was trying to defend “his manly-hood” in some way. For this last hand, he kept bluffing at the pot, and bluffing. At the river, Rachel showed an incredibly strong hand and broke Ross. Ross felt humiliated and had to leave. We guess his ego was hurt loosing to a girl, and also to his ex-girlfriend in front of all of his friends. In any case, this was some good spare change for Rachel since she was a waitress at the time.
